The Fender Hot Rod is a great amp, probably the best selling valve amp in the world and deservingly so. With a fantastic clean tone which takes
pedals very well this amp has proved popular with all kinds of players from blues to indie and all kinds of music. . It's very loud for it's size, generally
reliable and ideally suited in size for gig'ing pubs, bars and big stages. The only weak point with the amp is for some reason Fender designed the amp with
a linear volume taper, which means on the clean channel the amp goes from volume off to very loud in a fraction of a volume turn. This makes setting the
volume quickly or making quick changes while your playing quite tricky and irritating. Although the amp has a master volume Fender designed it so it only
affects the drive channel of the amp, not the clean channel. As most players of a Hot Rod tend to use the clean channel and get their drive from pedals this
doesn't help. So some people over the years have made volume boxes which you can plug into the effects loop but these are big and require another 2
additional cables to use. The Dr Watson design is very small and plugs directly into the top of the amp so requires no additional cables and takes up no room.
No need to take your amp apart - no soldering needed - no cables needed. This is the easiest and most elegent solution to the Fender volume pot problem
